Associations

 

There are number of professional associations that have focus on learning and development. Most have free resources available on their websites and, of course, more extensive resources available to members.

ASTD (American Society for Training & Development)
ASTD is the association for training professionals. Membership includes a wealth of resources beyond what is available on the public website, Training & Development magazine, training publications and international conferences. Roberta has written for ASTD's Info-line series, Answer Geek services and Learning Circuits website.

ISPI (International Association for Performance Improvement)
The International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI), is an international association dedicated to improving the productivity and competence of individuals and organizations through a systematic and reproducible approach call Human Performance Technology (HPT). ISPI offers an annual conference on best-practices and benchmarking on the latest performance improvement, human resources, and training trends and issues.

OD Network (Organization Development Network)
The OD Network (Organization Development Network) is an association of organizational development specialists. In addition to an annual conference, the OD Network offers a website, a journal and other resources of interest to the community of organizational development practitioners.

IAF (International Association of Facilitators)
The International Association of Facilitators (IAF) is a professional association for those who are professional facilitators, or those who are interested in developing in this area. Note that facilitation in this context refers to facilitators of group planning meetings, rather than an instructional context. The association holds an annual conference, offers publications and can help you to find facilitators in your area.

North American Simulation and Gaming Association (NASAGA)
The North American Simulation and Gaming Association (NASAGA) is a growing network of professionals working on the design, implementation, and evaluation of games and simulations to improve learning results in all types of organizations. Membership is free. Holds annual conferences.

CADE is a national association of professionals committed to excellence in the provision of distance education in Canada.

IFTDO (International Federation of Training & Development Organisations)
IFTDO is a worldwide network of human resource professionals committed to identify, develop, and transfer knowledge, skills and technology to enhance personal and organisational growth, human performance, productivity, and sustainable development. IFTDO is an accredited Non-Government Organisation to the United Nations Department of Public Information in New York and the UN's International Labour Organisation in Geneva, helping to insure that members' voices are heard by international policy makers influencing outcomes in human development

BC HRMA (BC Human Resources Management Association)
BC HRMA is the association for Human Resources professionals in British Columbia, Canada. While HRMA is a generalist association, the Training & Development Roundtable offers montly speakers and a new online community, which Roberta Facilitates. Roberta is a past editor and frequent author for PeopleTalk, the association's highly acclaimed magazine.
